WHAT IS A STATE COMMITTEE PERSON
(DISTRICT LEADER)?

This is the first question most people ask.  A Democratic State Committeeman also known as a District Leader is an unpaid volunteer elected official position within the Democratic Party. All political parties in New York State are required to have one male and one female District Leader per Assembly District. Officially, the District Leader is the representative of the party members in their district to that political party’s apparatus.More locally, District Leaders set the policies and determine how the Brooklyn Democratic Party functions and are delegates to the New York State Democratic Convention which happens every two years. In conjunction with the New York City Board of Elections, District Leaders also appoint individuals to staff polling sites during elections. District Leaders are also community organizers who serve as liaisons between the community and local elected officials. A list of all District Leaders in Brooklyn can be found on the Kings County Democratic Party official website.
